San Simón/Maximon is a cigarette-smoking, liquor drinking, philandering, and morally ambiguous folk saint who is very popular in Guatemala. His two names reflect his identity as an amalgamation of the religious practices of indigenous Mayans and the colonizing Spanish Catholics.

San Símon/Maximon is understood as a deeply democratic wish granter. For him, all requests, hopes, or desires—be they dark or light—are equally acceptable. His devotees are said to include politicians, politicians, and ordinary citizens, as well as those at the lowest rungs of society.

Our charming wooden San Símon/Maximon statue, imported from Antigua Guatemala, is hand-carved and painted. His sports a painted mustache and a carved and painted lit cigarette in his mouth. He is clothed in a suit of black cloth, and wears a removable wide brimmed hat. His arms are articulated at the shoulders and elbows, giving his carved hands the ability for position and expression.

San Símon/Maximo sits in a hand crafted wooden chair, to which is tied with rope. This often signifies a love-related petition, such as capturing the heart of a beloved or ensuring loyalty. it might also signify a supplication for protection.

As these pieces are hand made, expect slight variation.
Seated, he is 12" tall.
