Creating the Liminal: An Experiential Course Exploring States of Consciousness to Deepen Creativity, with Art Psychotherapist Mikella Millen, Beginning June 3
Four Week Class Taught Online Via Zoom
Tuesdays, June 3 - 24, 2025
7 pm - 8:30 pm ET (NYC Time)
$145 Paid Patreon members / $165 General Admission
PLEASE NOTE: All classes will be recorded for those who cannot attend live.
The psychoanalyst Carl Jung said that all art emerges from the collective unconscious: a shared space of archetypal images that represent universal themes and wisdom. The repetition of symbols throughout art history, as well the experience of many artists, suggests that when engaged in creative flow, multiple layers of consciousness are accessed simultaneously, beyond the individual psyche. In this expanded awareness, a liminal state may emerge—a space between realms holding great generative potential.
This experiential course will explore how intentionally navigating states of consciousness can deepen creativity. Eastern and Western perspectives on the liminal, qualities of brainwave states, and the bidirectional nature of creative expression and subconscious will be introduced through brief lectures. Techniques that safely induce liminal states that support the creative process will be shared and explored.
Each week, the instructor will draw upon her experience as an Art Psychotherapist, Ericksonian Hypnotist, Yoga Nidra and Tantric Meditation teacher, and Dreamwork facilitator to guide participants through layers of consciousness to prepare for creative expression. An open art practice, supported by Reiki, will allow space to create and integrate, followed by time for sharing. All levels of experience are welcome, and participants may work in any preferred medium.
Mikella Millen, LCAT, ATR-BC is a licensed Art Psychotherapist, Reiki Master Teacher, and Tantric Meditation Teacher. She has specialized in treating trauma and grief since 2009, and developed a unique approach to psychotherapy that incorporates Reiki into clinical practice. Mikella regularly teaches workshops exploring the intersections of creativity, trance, energy, and personal psychology.
