Do you want to draw insect wings? A tiny egg shell? A preserved bird specimen in a medical cabinet? Through a microscope? If so, this low key drawing session is for you! Art in the Lab co-founder Alison Dell and graphic artist Kris Dikeman will facilitate engagement with—and drawing from—a curated selection of objects from the Morbid Anatomy Library complemented by additional samples. In this session, entitled “A thing with feathers,” we’ll consider and draw from different plumages and wings, and merge microscopic observation, science, and fantasy in a series of drawing exercises followed by self paced drawing. Did you know that real hummingbird feathers (and sometimes real hummingbirds) were used in 19th century Victorian jewelry?
