In the 1910s, Progressive Era activists took their sermons on reproductive health to the the silent movie theater. Films such as The Inside of the White Slave Traffic and The End of the Road proved so popular that reform-minded directors expanded the dialogue to address birth control, abortion, and childbirth. In this talk—illustrated by copious vintage film clips—film historian and silent film restorer Bret Wood follows the evolution of sex-oriented social guidance films into the sound era.
