Santa Muerte Egg and Frame Devotional Object
Santa Muerte Egg and Frame Devotional Object
This handmade mini shrine or object for an altar features a delicately hand painted Santa Muerte with glowing eyes rendered on a the shell of a real egg. The egg is affixed on its end to a black lacquered base and next to it is a mini frame which, perhaps, is meant to hold a photos of a dead loved one. This fierce and beautifully painted Santa Muerte holds a scythe and scales.
The egg symbolizes fertility, new beginnings and ventures. Santa Muerte’s robe color is also significant to devotions: rainbow is for universal blessings on multiple planes and takes special care of LGBTQ+; red is for romance and passion; gold is for money and prosperity; black is for protection and thwarting ones enemies.
Santa Muerte, holy death, is a folk saint of the Mexican diaspora.
