Embark into the archetypal feminine underworld and the myths that mirror our own struggles with identity, conflict, vulnerabilities, desires, and authenticity.

Throughout history, myths and legends have served as mirrors to our innermost struggles, desires, and potential for change. The archetypal feminine underworld, rich with symbolic figures and profound wisdom, offers a unique lens through which we can explore our own journeys of self-discovery and transformation. These timeless stories provide invaluable insights into the human experience and our capacity for resilience and renewal.

Over the course of this six week class, we will look at the descent of Inanna as a model for personal transformation, and take inspiration from the ferocity of Kali for embracing change and destruction as catalysts for rebirth; the strengths of Freya to harness love, beauty, and power; and the humanness of Psyche, including her perseverance and faith to confront deep fears and hidden potentials. We will also look at the blade as a symbol for transformation, representing the cutting away the old self to excavate the new, precision in discerning truth from illusion, severing cycles that do not serve us, and as a tool for sacrifice, offering, and initiation into deeper wisdom.

Through engaging discussions, reflective exercises, and practical applications, participants will gain a deeper understanding of their own inner landscapes and develop strategies for navigating life's challenges with greater authenticity and empowerment. By the end of this journey, students will be equipped with powerful insights and tools to fuel your ongoing growth, embrace change, and unlock your full potential.

Selena Madden, PhD is a dedicated mythologist, archetypal educator, and somatic muse. Her profound passion lies in the exploration and integration of diverse archetypes and mythic narratives, unraveling the mysteries of the human psyche. Her PhD in Mythological Studies with an emphasis in Depth Psychology, earned from Pacifica Graduate Institute, provides her with a rich and nuanced understanding of the archetypal landscape, empowering her to bring forth profound insights and guide others on their own mythic odysseys.
