In this five-week online course led by Mexcian artist and educator Teté Montero, participants will immerse themselves in the fascinating world of spiritual anatomical illustration. Spiritual anatomy encompasses the knowledge and visualization of the sacred energy centers of the human body, as described by various religious lineages for millennia. Numerous faiths have organized these energy centers into visual shapes and channels as a means to study them, describing, locating, and utilizing these concepts in practical life. From moving chakras to prayer visualization to acupuncture to astrology, different cultures, traditional medical practices, visionaries, shamans and artists have used this knowledge for healing, guidance, self-expression, and inner growth, creating a unique intersection of spirituality and natural sciences.
Via illustrated lectures, we will explore the historical background of traditional sacred anatomical art, delving into its origins and evolution, and its influence on both art and science. We will look at more traditional anatomical art, and examine how the two evolved together, side by side, describing the physical and spiritual journeys of the human experience. We also investigate significant breakthroughs and iconic pieces, as well as contributions from contemporary artists and practitioners.
The course will provide a foundation for understanding anatomical organs and systems from a spiritual perspective, focusing on their ethereal and energetic aspects seen by different spiritual lineages. The instructor will provide mindful art prompts, writing exercises, and a little bit of meditation to inspire creative expression, encouraging participants to blend naturalistic accuracy with spiritual creativity, culminating in unique pieces of art and inner exploration.
By the end of the course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the history and evolution of spiritual anatomical illustration, as well as hands-on experience in creating their own spiritually inspired anatomical art. course is designed for artists, illustrators, spiritual practitioners, and anyone interested in the intersection of art, science and spirituality. No prior experience in art, anatomical art illustration or spiritual practice is necessary, as the course will cover the necessary concepts.
