Period: A Cultural History of Menstruation: An Illustrated Online Lecture by Marybec Griffin

Admission: $8 - Tickets and more info HERE

Few experiences are as broadly misunderstood as menstruation, yet half of humanity will experience this phenomenon. In this talk, author and professor Marybec Griffin will cover the basics of periods before looking at the construction of medical knowledge and taboos around menstrual blood from antiquity, the Victorian era, and ‘modern’ menstruation. We will come to understand how art shapes our relationship to menstrual blood by looking at film clips from Carrie, menstruation in music, and the current menstrual art revolution. This journey through history will show us how little knowledge exists around periods.
