Museum Vrolik is the anatomical museum of the University of Amsterdam. It is named after Gerard Vrolik (1775-1859) and his son Willem (1801-1863). Their privately owned Museum Vrolikianum (over 5,000 preparations) was originally housed in their stately canal house in Amsterdam. After their death, the collection eventually became part of the anatomical laboratory of the University and was expanded by several succeeding anatomists.
The museum now houses about 12,000 preparations of human and anatomy and pathology, embryology, congenital malformations and animal morphology. Since 1984, the museum is housed in the academic Medical Center of Amsterdam In 2012 the rmanent exhibition was fully refurbished, with more emphasis of the historical context of the collection.
