La Casa de Mendrugo, Puebla City ( 4 Sur 304 Centro, Puebla, Puebla. México)
Note: this event will be conducted in English
Puebla City, Mexico’s La Casa de Mendrugo houses an astounding collection of mysterious carved skulls from the state of Oaxaca, dating from pre-hispanic times. The cultural practice of engraving or sculpting human bones after death was uncommon in ancient Mexico. It was a ritual treatment considered to legitimize links within a cult related to the ancestors.
Tonight, join us for a lecture and guided tour of the collection by José Ramón Lozano, the museum’s founder, who will share the fascinating story behind these mysterious skulls and what they tell us about the Mexican indigenous past.
The event is produced in partnership with New York City’s Morbid Anatomy, whose founder, Joanna Ebenstein, will introduce it.
